Origin Coffee To Become An Environmentally Responsible Roaster
We are so excited to announce that we ordered the world’s first ‘green’ coffee roaster.
As I am sure you are aware over the last 12 months we have been experimenting with great success, roasting coffee. It has always been an ambition for Origin to be Cornwall’s first and only coffee roaster and since we made the breakthrough last year the results have been fantastic. We roasted the best espresso at the South West Heats of the UK Barista Championships in 2009 and 2010 and also our coffee was used by the third best barista Tristan Stephenson in the 2009 finals. We have also looked at different ways of buying green coffee with better results in the cup and more money going to the growers.

Our new roaster!
Now that we have grasped the concept of roasting coffee we have made the decision to purchase a larger roaster that will enable us to roast up to 200 tonnes of coffee per year. This roaster will enable us to roast the majority of the coffee that we currently sell and also provide much needed economic growth and jobs within the County.
We have ordered a new 35 kilo Loring Smart Roaster, the world’s first and only green coffee roasting machine. The Loring is due to be shipped from the States in May and will arrive in Cornwall at some point in June. We are hoping that from this point onwards that we will be roasting all of our espresso beans on this roaster, giving our customers a unique selling point of not only the coffee being roasted in the County but also on a roaster that uses 80% less energy than other roasters as well as being virtually smoke and emission free.
We hope also that due to reduced oxygen contact within the coffee roasting drum that our coffee will taste cleaner and brighter than before.
